Oleic Acid

Oleic Acid is a colorless to yellowish, viscous liquid that is a monounsaturated fatty acid. It has a melting point of approximately 13-14°C. Oleic acid is soluble in organic solvents such as alcohol and ether but only slightly soluble in water. It is known for its emollient properties and is commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products for its moisturizing effects. Additionally, oleic acid serves as a surfactant and emulsifier, helping to stabilize formulations. In the food industry, it is found in various oils, particularly olive oil, and is valued for its health benefits, including its potential to improve cholesterol levels. Furthermore, oleic acid is used in the production of soaps, detergents, and lubricants due to its ability to enhance texture and performance.

Applications:

Surfactants: Used to produce detergents, soaps, and shampoos due to its excellent emulsifying, wetting, and cleaning properties.
Coatings: Acts as a solvent and diluent to adjust the viscosity and flow of paints, enhancing coating performance and adhesion.
Plastic Industry: Serves as an additive to improve processing and physical properties of plastics, increasing flexibility, ductility, and toughness, while also functioning as a lubricant to reduce processing friction.
Lubricants: Used as an additive to enhance the lubricating properties and antioxidant capacity of oils, reducing wear and friction in machinery and extending equipment lifespan.
Rubber Industry: Functions as an additive to improve processing and physical properties of rubber, enhancing flexibility and toughness, and acting as a lubricant to decrease friction during processing.
Pharmaceutical Industry: Utilized as a raw material and solvent for drug production, effectively dissolving active ingredients, and serving as a coating and lubricant to enhance taste and usability.
Cosmetics: Acts as a raw material and additive in creams, skincare products, and lipsticks, improving moisture retention and skin protection, while also functioning as a stabilizer and emulsifier to enhance product stability and texture.
